AI Explain
IrukaDark provides multiple ways to get instant AI-powered explanations — capture a screen region, select text in any app, or highlight a URL for a quick summary.
Screenshot Explain
Capture any region of your screen and get an AI-powered explanation. Works with any visual content — dashboards, code, charts, PDFs, shared screens during online meetings, and more.
| Shortcut (macOS / Windows) | Action |
|---|---|
Option+S / Alt+S | Quick explanation of selected region |
Option+Shift+S / Alt+Shift+S | Deep dive with detailed context |
How It Works
- Press the shortcut — your screen dims and a crosshair cursor appears
- Click and drag to select the region you want explained
- IrukaDark captures the region as a PNG image and sends it to AI
- The explanation appears in the IrukaDark chat window
Quick vs Deep Dive
- Quick (
Option+S) — A concise 1-2 sentence summary highlighting the key elements and context of what's on screen. - Deep Dive (
Option+Shift+S) — A structured analysis for non-experts covering: key points, reasons, concrete examples, and caveats.
Screenshot Explain also works during online meetings — capture a slide or chart the presenter is sharing on Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and get an instant explanation without interrupting the meeting.
After receiving an explanation, you can ask follow-up questions in the chat, or use /what to dig deeper and /table to reformat the response as a table.
On macOS, the Screen Recording permission is required. See Permissions & Accessibility if screenshots return blank images.
Text Explain
Select any text in any application and get an instant AI-powered explanation.
| Shortcut (macOS / Windows) | Action |
|---|---|
Option+A / Alt+A | Quick explanation (1-2 sentences, conclusion first) |
Option+Shift+A / Alt+Shift+A | Detailed analysis (key points → reasons → examples → caveats) |
Option+Control+A / Alt+Ctrl+A | Generate a slide image from text |
How It Works
- Highlight text in any app (browser, editor, PDF viewer, Slack, etc.)
- Press the shortcut — IrukaDark reads the selected text via the OS accessibility API
- The explanation appears in the IrukaDark chat window
Quick vs Detailed
- Quick (
Option+A) — A brief explanation starting with the conclusion, ideal for getting the gist. - Detailed (
Option+Shift+A) — A structured breakdown covering key points, reasons, concrete examples, and caveats — written for non-experts.
On macOS, the Accessibility permission is required for text capture. See Permissions & Accessibility.
URL Summary
Highlight any URL in any application and get an instant summary of the page content without opening it. Works with web pages, online PDFs, blog posts, news articles, documentation, GitHub repositories, and any publicly accessible URL.
| Shortcut (macOS / Windows) | Action |
|---|---|
Option+Q / Alt+Q | Quick summary (3-4 sentence digest) |
Option+Shift+Q / Alt+Shift+Q | Deep summary (structured analysis) |
Quick vs Deep
- Quick (
Option+Q) — A 3-4 sentence summary covering the key takeaway, why it matters, and suggested next steps. - Deep (
Option+Shift+Q) — A structured analysis with five sections: overview, key details, context, risks, and action items.
The URL must include http:// or https://. Select the full URL text (partial URLs or non-HTTP protocols are not supported).
Links shared in Slack or email work too — just select the URL and press the shortcut to get a summary without opening the page.
Pages that require login, are behind a paywall, or block automated access may not return a summary. In those cases, open the page manually and use Screenshot Explain or Text Explain instead.
