It works with dashboards, code, charts, PDFs, and any visual content on your screen. ## Privacy-First IrukaDark only sends the content you explicitly select or capture. It does not monitor your screen continuously or store your data. All communication happens over HTTPS. Your data is never used for AI training. ## Free to Use IrukaDark is free with all features included and a monthly credit allowance. For organizations, the [Team plan](/docs/team/overview) adds cloud-shared meeting notes, usage analytics, shared credit pools, and role-based member management. ## Next Steps --- ## Installation > Download and install IrukaDark on macOS or Windows. All features are included in the free plan with a monthly credit allowance. Keyboard shortcuts are fully customizable in Settings. --- # Features ## AI Explain > Capture screenshots, select text, or highlight URLs to get instant AI-powered explanations. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/features/ai-explain # AI Explain IrukaDark provides multiple ways to get instant AI-powered explanations — capture a screen region, select text in any app, or highlight a URL for a quick summary. ## Screenshot Explain Capture any region of your screen and get an AI-powered explanation. Works with any visual content — dashboards, code, charts, PDFs, shared screens during online meetings, and more.
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Quick explanation of selected region | `Option+S` | | Deep dive with detailed context | Hold `Option+S` |
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Quick explanation of selected region | `Alt+S` | | Deep dive with detailed context | Hold `Alt+S` |
### How It Works 1. Press the shortcut — your screen dims and a crosshair cursor appears 2. Click and drag to select the region you want explained 3. IrukaDark captures the region as a PNG image and sends it to AI 4. The explanation appears in the IrukaDark chat window ### Quick vs Deep Dive - Quick (`Option+S`) — A concise 1-2 sentence summary highlighting the key elements and context of what's on screen. - Deep Dive (hold `Option+S`) — A structured analysis for non-experts covering: key points, reasons, concrete examples, and caveats. Screenshot Explain also works during online meetings — capture a slide or chart the presenter is sharing on Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and get an instant explanation without interrupting the meeting. After receiving an explanation, you can ask follow-up questions in the chat, or use `/what` to dig deeper and `/table` to reformat the response as a table. On macOS, the Screen Recording permission is required. See [Permissions & Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions) if screenshots return blank images. ## Text Explain Select any text in any application and get an instant AI-powered explanation.
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Quick explanation (1-2 sentences, conclusion first) | `Option+A` | | Detailed analysis (key points → reasons → examples → caveats) | Hold `Option+A` | | Generate a slide image from text | `Option+Control+A` |
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Quick explanation (1-2 sentences, conclusion first) | `Alt+A` | | Detailed analysis (key points → reasons → examples → caveats) | Hold `Alt+A` | | Generate a slide image from text | `Alt+Ctrl+A` |
### How It Works 1. Highlight text in any app (browser, editor, PDF viewer, Slack, etc.) 2. Press the shortcut — IrukaDark reads the selected text via the OS accessibility API 3. The explanation appears in the IrukaDark chat window ### Quick vs Detailed - Quick (`Option+A`) — A brief explanation starting with the conclusion, ideal for getting the gist. - Detailed (hold `Option+A`) — A structured breakdown covering key points, reasons, concrete examples, and caveats — written for non-experts. On macOS, the Accessibility permission is required for text capture. See [Permissions & Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions). ## URL Summary Highlight any URL in any application and get an instant summary of the page content without opening it. Works with web pages, online PDFs, blog posts, news articles, documentation, GitHub repositories, and any publicly accessible URL.
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Quick summary (3-4 sentence digest) | `Option+Q` | | Deep summary (structured analysis) | Hold `Option+Q` |
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Quick summary (3-4 sentence digest) | `Alt+Q` | | Deep summary (structured analysis) | Hold `Alt+Q` |
### Quick vs Deep - Quick (`Option+Q`) — A 3-4 sentence summary covering the key takeaway, why it matters, and suggested next steps. - Deep (hold `Option+Q`) — A structured analysis with five sections: overview, key details, context, risks, and action items. The URL must include `http://` or `https://`. Select the full URL text (partial URLs or non-HTTP protocols are not supported). Links shared in Slack or email work too — just select the URL and press the shortcut to get a summary without opening the page. Pages that require login, are behind a paywall, or block automated access may not return a summary. In those cases, open the page manually and use Screenshot Explain or Text Explain instead. --- ## Draft from Screen > Reads the focused window, drafts what to write in the input field, and pastes it in place. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/features/compose # Draft from Screen Chat replies, emails, comments, form fields. IrukaDark reads the conversation on your screen, drafts what you should write in the active input field, and pastes it right where you type.
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Draft from Screen | `Option+D` |
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Draft from Screen | `Alt+Shift+D` |
## How It Works 1. Focus the app you want to reply in (a chat, an email, a form) and press the shortcut 2. IrukaDark reads the focused window and shows a pre-run panel 3. Press "Create" and it infers what to write next from the on-screen context and generates a draft 4. The draft is pasted straight into the input field of the original app It follows the language and tone of the screen automatically: a Japanese chat gets a Japanese draft, an English email gets an English one. ## Pre-Run Panel The panel shown before generation lets you adjust: - Instruction (one-time): steer this draft only, e.g. "Politely decline the invitation" - Template: pick one of your saved prompt templates - Model: switch the AI model used for the draft ## Customization Under "AI Actions" in Settings you can tune how drafts are written. These settings are saved to your account and sync across your devices. - Length: Auto / Concise / Standard / Detailed - Default model: the model preselected in the pre-run panel - Prompt templates: save up to 10 custom prompts that steer the direction of your drafts - Sample texts: register up to 5 examples of your own writing. The AI mimics only the style and never copies the content The captured screen is processed in memory only and is never stored. macOS requires Screen Recording permission. See [Permissions & Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions). --- ## Translate & Rewrite > Translate text into 16 languages or rephrase with improved clarity, all with keyboard shortcuts. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/features/translate-rewrite # Translate & Rewrite IrukaDark can translate or rewrite text **directly where you're typing** — no copy-paste needed. Select text in any app, press a shortcut, and the result replaces your selection in-place. IrukaDark supports **16 languages**: English, Japanese (日本語), Chinese Simplified (简体中文), Chinese Traditional (繁體中文), Spanish (Español), Latin American Spanish (Español Latinoamérica), French (Français), German (Deutsch), Korean (한국어), Portuguese Brazilian (Português Brasil), Russian (Русский), Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt), Thai (ไทย), Italian (Italiano), Turkish (Türkçe) Unlike a simple translator, IrukaDark explains text in context — beyond word-for-word translation — so you get intent, background, and plain-language explanations.
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Translate selected text (result shown in chat) | `Option+R` | | Translate & replace in-place | `Option+Shift+R` | | Rephrase with improved clarity (in-place) | `Option+W` |
| Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Translate selected text (result shown in chat) | `Alt+R` | | Translate & replace in-place | `Alt+Shift+R` | | Rephrase with improved clarity (in-place) | `Alt+W` |
## Three Modes - **Translate** (`Option+R`) — Translates the selected text into your configured target language. The result appears in the IrukaDark chat window, leaving the original text untouched. - **Translate & Replace** (`Option+Shift+R`) — Translates the text and **automatically replaces the original selection** with the translation. Works in any text field — email drafts, chat messages, documents, code comments. The target language is configurable in Settings. - **Rephrase** (`Option+W`) — Rewrites the selected text with improved clarity while preserving the original language and level of formality. The rephrased text **replaces the original selection in-place** — perfect for polishing sentences without leaving your editor. In-place replacement uses the Accessibility permission on macOS to simulate a paste operation. If the replacement doesn't work in a specific app, check [Permissions → Automation](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions#automation-apple-events). --- ## AI Meeting Notes > Record meetings and get automatic summaries, transcripts, and slide images. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/features/meeting # AI Meeting Notes Record any meeting and get automatic summaries and slide images. Works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, and any other meeting or media app. ## Recording Source Selection When you start a recording, a source selection popup appears with two tabs: - Displays — Record an entire display/monitor. Thumbnail previews of each connected display are shown. - Windows — Record a specific application window. All visible windows are listed with app name and thumbnail. You can also click Start Without Recording to capture audio only (no screen recording). This is useful when you only need a transcript and summary. Audio-only mode is lighter on system resources and doesn't require Screen Recording permission on macOS — only Microphone permission is needed. ## Audio Capture IrukaDark captures two audio sources simultaneously: - System audio (pink indicator) — Captures what others are saying through your speakers/headphones - Microphone (purple indicator) — Captures your own voice Real-time audio level indicators show activity for each source during recording. Both sources are transcribed separately and labeled in the transcript. ## Real-time Transcription Live transcription appears during recording, with each entry color-coded by audio source (pink for system audio, purple for microphone). The transcript auto-scrolls as new entries arrive. ## Custom Dictionary Add up to 100 custom terms to improve transcription accuracy for specialized vocabulary — product names, technical jargon, acronyms, and proper nouns. Access the dictionary from the Meeting Notes settings. ## Summary & Slide Generation After stopping the recording: 1. Summary — IrukaDark automatically generates a markdown-formatted summary of the meeting 2. Slide — A slide image highlighting the key points is generated automatically You can customize slide generation with slide templates — save custom instructions and style reference images to control the visual output. ## Export Two export destinations: - Local — Export as a ZIP file containing: - Markdown summary (`.md`) - Slide image (PNG/JPEG) - Screen recording (`.mp4`, if captured) - Cloud — Upload to cloud storage for [team sharing](/docs/team/overview) (Team and Enterprise plans) On macOS, Screen Recording permission is required for display/window capture, and Microphone permission is required for audio. See [Permissions & Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions). --- ## AI Chat > Built-in chat interface with image, video, slide, and music generation, Deep Research, slash commands, and file attachments. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/features/ai-chat # AI Chat & Content Generation IrukaDark includes a built-in chat interface with powerful generation capabilities. ## @ Commands Trigger content generation directly in the chat: | Command | Action | |---|---| | `@image ` | Generate images | | `@video ` | Generate videos | | `@slide ` | Generate presentation slides | | `@music ` | Generate music | | `@deep ` | Deep Research (in-depth research with cited sources) | Attach images as style references when using `@image` or `@slide` to guide the visual style of generated content. ## Slash Commands Extend and control AI responses: | Command | Action | |---|---| | `/what` | Deeper dive on the previous answer (key points, reasons, examples, caveats) | | `/next` | Continue the last explanation in the same language | | `/table` | Reformat the previous response into a markdown table | | `/translate_ja`, `/translate_en`, etc. | Translate the last response to a specific language (16 languages) | | `/web on` / `/web off` / `/web status` | Toggle or check web search mode | | `/clear` | Clear chat history | | `/help` | Show help overlay with all commands and shortcuts | ## Image Generation Settings | Command | Action | |---|---| | `/image status` | Show current settings (size + count) | | `/image size ` | Set aspect ratio: `auto`, `1:1`, `9:16`, `16:9`, `3:4`, `4:3` | | `/image count ` | Set generation count: `1`-`4` | | `/image template` | Open template manager | | `/image template ` | Apply a saved template by name | | `/image template clear` | Clear the active template | ## Video Generation Settings | Command | Action | |---|---| | `/video status` | Show current settings | | `/video size ` | Set aspect ratio: `16:9`, `9:16` | | `/video quality ` | Set resolution: `720p`, `1080p`, `4k` | | `/video duration ` | Set length: `4`, `6`, `8` seconds | | `/video count ` | Set generation count: `1`-`4` | ## Slide Generation Settings | Command | Action | |---|---| | `/slide status` | Show current settings | | `/slide size ` | Set aspect ratio: `16:9`, `9:16`, `4:3`, `3:4`, `1:1` | | `/slide count ` | Set generation count: `1`-`4` | | `/slide template` | Open template manager | | `/slide template ` | Apply a saved template by name | | `/slide template clear` | Clear the active template | ## Music Generation Type `@music` followed by your prompt to generate music. Settings live in the generation tray below the chat. - Model: Lyria 3 Clip (30-second clips) / Lyria 3 Pro (full tracks up to about 3 minutes) - Count: `1`-`4` tracks per request Generated tracks appear as cards in the chat with playback and seeking, playback speed control (0.5x to 2x), and download. ## Deep Research Type `@deep` followed by what you want to know. The AI proposes a research plan, and once started it searches and reads the web to write a report with cited sources. ## Templates Both image and slide generation support templates — saved combinations of a custom prompt and an optional style reference image. Templates let you maintain a consistent visual style across multiple generations. - Create, edit, and delete templates from the template manager - Apply a template by name via `/image template ` or `/slide template ` - Each template can include a reference image for style guidance ## Chat Features - Message attachments — Attach images (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP), PDFs, and text files. Supported text formats include `.txt`, `.md`, `.csv`, `.json`, `.xml`, `.yaml`, `.html`, `.js`, `.ts`, `.py`, `.go`, `.rs`, `.java`, `.sh`, `.sql`, and more. Max 10 MB per file. - PDF content extraction — Attach PDFs and IrukaDark extracts the text for AI analysis - Web search — Toggle with `/web on` to include fresh web search results in AI responses. Source URLs are shown when web results are used. --- ## Deep Research > The AI plans first, then searches and reads the web to write a research report with cited sources. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/features/deep-research # Deep Research Type `@deep` in the chat followed by what you want to know, and the AI first proposes a research plan. Once started, it searches and reads on its own and delivers a report with cited sources. ## How to Use ### Send your question Type `@deep` followed by what you want researched. Example: `@deep Trends in the desktop AI market` ### Review the research plan The AI presents a research plan card with a title, scope, and numbered steps. To revise the plan, just type your feedback in the chat box and it will redraft the plan. ### Start the research Press "Start research" on the plan card to begin. ## Progress While it runs, a progress card in the chat keeps you up to date in real time. - Status: researching, writing the report, and so on - Stats: number of searches, pages read, and elapsed time - Sources: the sites being consulted - Activity log: a collapsible timeline of searches, reads, and reasoning ## The Report When it finishes, press "Read report" to open the report in a separate window. - A table of contents generated from the headings - Copy as Markdown - Save as a `.md` file Sources are listed with their domain and page title. ## Models Pick the model in the tray below the chat. | Model | Use case | |---|---| | Deep Research | Standard in-depth research | | Deep Research Max | Broader, deeper large-scale research | The research plan and the report are written in the language of your app's UI. Deep Research consumes more credits than regular chat, and starting a run requires a sufficient credit balance. A run can take several minutes. --- ## Clipboard Manager > Clipboard history popup for quick paste, and main window for full snippet management. --- # Team ## Team Management > Set up and manage your team — roles, invitations, members, cloud meeting notes, usage analytics, and billing. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/team/overview # Team Management The Team plan lets organizations collaborate with shared resources, centralized account management, and seat-based billing. This guide covers everything you need to manage your team. ## Plans Overview IrukaDark offers five plans: | Plan | Type | Team Features | |---|---|---| | Free | Personal | — | | Plus | Personal | — | | Max | Personal | — | | Team | Organization | Full team access | | Enterprise | Organization | Full team access | Team features — member management, cloud-shared meeting notes, usage analytics, shared credits, and more — are available exclusively on the Team and Enterprise plans. Each user can belong to only one team at a time. Personal plans (Free, Plus, Max) remain active alongside your team membership. ## Cloud-Shared Meeting Notes Meeting notes recorded with the AI Meeting Notes are automatically stored in the cloud and shared across your team. - Cloud storage — Recordings, transcriptions, summaries, and slide snapshots are stored securely in the cloud - Team-wide access — All team members can browse and view meeting notes recorded by anyone in the organization - Rich content — Each note includes a markdown summary, snapshot images, and the media recording Notes are organized per team. When you switch organizations, you see only that organization's meeting notes. ## Usage Analytics The Dashboard → Usage page gives your team visibility into how AI credits are being consumed. ### Overview Stats - This month's total — Total credits consumed in the current billing period - This week's total — Credits consumed in the last 7 days - Daily average — Average daily consumption over the last 30 days ### Charts - Daily usage chart — A line chart showing credit consumption day by day over the past week - Usage by feature — A breakdown chart showing which AI features consume the most credits (chat, image recognition, image generation, audio transcription) Usage data is organization-wide. All team members can view the usage dashboard to understand the team's consumption patterns. ## Credits Team plans use a shared credit pool. Each seat on the plan contributes a set number of credits, and all members draw from the same pool. - Balance — View the current available credits on Dashboard → Credits - Expiring credits — Credits that expire within 180 days are highlighted with a warning - Purchase credits — The Owner can buy additional credit packs when the team needs more - Usage history — Track recent credit consumption with a per-feature breakdown ## Roles & Permissions Every team member has one of three roles: | Permission | Owner | Admin | Member | |---|---|---|---| | View team members | Yes | Yes | Yes | | View usage analytics | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Invite new members | Yes | Yes | — | | Remove members | Yes | Yes | — | | Change member roles | Yes | Yes | — | | Purchase credits | Yes | — | — | | Manage billing | Yes | — | — | | Rename team | Yes | — | — | | Dissolve team | Yes | — | — | There is exactly one Owner per team. The Owner role cannot be reassigned to another member. ### Role Hierarchy Role management follows a strict hierarchy: Owner > Admin > Member. - Owner can promote or demote any member (Admin ↔ Member) - Admin can manage Members but cannot change other Admins or the Owner - Member has read-only access to the team roster ## Inviting Members Owners and Admins can invite new members by email. ### Open the Invite Dialog Go to Dashboard → Team and click the Invite button. ### Enter Email and Role Enter the invitee's email address and choose a role — Member or Admin. ### Send the Invitation The invitee receives an email with a unique invitation link. Invitations expire after 7 days. ### Managing Pending Invitations From the Team page, you can: - Resend — Send a fresh email with a new link and reset the 7-day expiry - Copy link — Copy the invitation URL to share manually - Cancel — Revoke a pending invitation before it is accepted You cannot invite someone who is already a member of your team or who has a pending invitation. If the invitee belongs to another team, they must leave that team first. ## Managing Members ### Changing Roles From the member list, click the more menu (⋯) next to a member to change their role. The available options depend on your role and the target member's role: - Owner can set any member to Admin or Member - Admin can promote Members to Admin or demote Admins to Member (only for members at a lower hierarchy level) ### Removing Members Owners and Admins can remove members from the team. When a member is removed: - Their seat is released and the subscription quantity is adjusted automatically - If they had a suspended personal plan (Plus or Max), it resumes ### Leaving the Team Owners and Admins can leave the team on their own. When the Owner needs to leave, the team must be dissolved first (see below). ## Team Settings ### Renaming the Team Only the Owner can rename the team. Go to Dashboard → Team and click the team name to edit it (max 32 characters). ### Dissolving the Team Only the Owner can dissolve a team. This action: 1. Cancels the team's Stripe subscription 2. Removes all members from the team 3. Resumes any suspended personal subscriptions for former members Dissolving a team is irreversible. All members will lose access to team features immediately. ## Billing Team plans use seat-based billing. Each seat is billed individually, with a minimum of 2 seats. The subscription quantity automatically adjusts as members are added or removed — no manual seat management required. When a user with an active personal paid plan (Plus or Max) joins a team: - Their personal subscription is suspended (not cancelled) - If they leave or are removed from the team, the personal subscription resumes automatically The Owner can manage the subscription, update payment methods, and view invoices from Dashboard → Billing. --- # Troubleshooting ## Permissions & Accessibility > How to grant the system permissions IrukaDark needs on macOS and Windows. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/troubleshooting/permissions # Permissions & Accessibility IrukaDark needs several OS-level permissions to capture your screen, read selected text, record audio, and simulate keyboard input. This page explains every permission, why it's needed, and how to enable it on each platform. On first launch, IrukaDark automatically requests the required permissions. If you dismissed the prompts or need to change settings later, follow the guides below. ## macOS macOS requires you to explicitly grant each permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. ### Screen Recording Required for: Screenshot Explain, AI Meeting Notes (system audio capture) Without this permission, IrukaDark cannot capture any part of your screen or record system audio during meetings. ### Open System Settings Go to Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. ### Enable IrukaDark Find IrukaDark in the list and toggle it on. If IrukaDark is not listed, click the + button and add it from your Applications folder. ### Restart IrukaDark macOS requires an app restart after granting Screen Recording permission. Quit IrukaDark completely and relaunch it. Screen Recording permission changes require a restart. If you just toggled the permission on but screenshots still don't work, quit IrukaDark (`Cmd+Q`) and relaunch it. ### Accessibility Required for: Text selection capture, keyboard simulation (paste), window control Without this permission, features like Text Explain, Translate & Replace, and clipboard paste will not work. ### Open System Settings Go to Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. ### Enable IrukaDark Find IrukaDark in the list and toggle it on. If not listed, click + and add it. If the toggle is on but features still don't work, try removing IrukaDark from the list and re-adding it. This can fix stale permission states after app updates. ### Microphone Required for: AI Meeting Notes (microphone recording), voice input ### Open System Settings Go to Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. ### Enable IrukaDark Toggle IrukaDark on. ### Automation (Apple Events) Required for: Sending scripted commands to other apps (e.g., pasting into specific applications) This permission is usually granted automatically when IrukaDark first tries to interact with another app. If a prompt appears asking whether IrukaDark can control another application, click OK. If you accidentally denied it: 1. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation 2. Find IrukaDark and enable the target applications listed under it ### macOS Permissions Summary | Permission | Location in System Settings | Features Affected | Restart Required | |---|---|---|---| | Screen Recording | Privacy & Security → Screen Recording | Screenshot Explain, Meeting Notes (system audio) | Yes | | Accessibility | Privacy & Security → Accessibility | Text Explain, Translate & Replace, Window Control, Clipboard Paste | No | | Microphone | Privacy & Security → Microphone | Meeting Notes (mic audio), Voice Input | No | | Automation | Privacy & Security → Automation | Paste into other apps | No | --- ## Windows Windows handles permissions differently — most are granted through system-level settings in Settings → Privacy & security. ### Screen Capture Required for: Screenshot Explain, AI Meeting Notes (screen recording) Windows 11 does not require an explicit screen capture permission for desktop apps by default. However, if screenshots return a blank image or the Meeting Notes cannot list displays: ### Check Graphics Driver Outdated graphics drivers can cause screen capture failures. Update your GPU driver from the manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel). ### Check "Let desktop apps access your screen" (Windows 11 24H2+) On recent Windows 11 builds, go to Settings → Privacy & security → Screen capture and ensure the toggle is enabled. ### Disable Hardware Acceleration (if blank screenshots) Some apps use hardware acceleration that can cause captured images to appear blank. In the target app's settings, try disabling hardware acceleration. ### Microphone Required for: AI Meeting Notes (microphone recording), voice input ### Open Settings Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. ### Enable Microphone Access Ensure Microphone access is turned on at the top of the page, then confirm that Let desktop apps access your microphone is also enabled. ### Keyboard Shortcuts Not Responding IrukaDark registers global keyboard shortcuts. If shortcuts don't work: 1. Check for conflicts — Other apps (screen recorders, clipboard managers, window managers) may have claimed the same shortcut. Close conflicting apps or remap shortcuts in IrukaDark's Settings. 2. Run as Administrator — In rare cases, elevated apps block global shortcuts from non-elevated processes. Try running IrukaDark as Administrator once to confirm, then revert. 3. Keyboard layout — Non-US keyboard layouts may map keys differently. Check IrukaDark's Settings to verify the bound keys match your layout. ### Windows Permissions Summary | Permission | Location in Settings | Features Affected | |---|---|---| | Screen Capture | Privacy & security → Screen capture | Screenshot Explain, Meeting Notes (screen recording) | | Microphone | Privacy & security → Microphone | Meeting Notes (mic audio), Voice Input | --- ## Common Issues ### "Screen recording permission required" (macOS) This error appears when starting the Meeting Notes without Screen Recording permission. Follow the [Screen Recording](#screen-recording) steps above. Remember to restart IrukaDark after granting the permission. ### "Microphone permission denied" (macOS / Windows) The Meeting Notes cannot access your microphone. - macOS: Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone - Windows: Check Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone — ensure both the global toggle and the "desktop apps" toggle are on ### Text Explain or Translate & Replace does nothing (macOS) The Accessibility permission is likely missing or stale. 1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility 2. If IrukaDark is listed but not working, remove it (click −), then re-add it (click +) 3. No restart required — try the feature again immediately ### Pasted text doesn't appear in the target app (macOS) IrukaDark uses Accessibility to simulate `Cmd+V` in other apps. If paste doesn't work in a specific app: 1. Ensure the Automation permission is granted for that app 2. Some apps (e.g., Terminal, remote desktop clients) intercept paste differently. Try the regular `Cmd+V` shortcut manually to confirm paste works in that app ### Shortcuts don't work after macOS update macOS updates can reset privacy permissions. Re-enable IrukaDark in: - Privacy & Security → Screen Recording - Privacy & Security → Accessibility Then restart IrukaDark. --- ## Common Issues > Solutions for frequently reported issues with IrukaDark — AI features, recording, shortcuts, clipboard, updates, and more. Source: https://irukadark.com/docs/troubleshooting/common-issues # Common Issues This page covers the most frequently reported issues grouped by feature area. For permission and accessibility problems, see [Permissions & Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions). --- ## Startup & General ### IrukaDark doesn't launch / shows a blank window 1. Quit completely and relaunch — Press `Cmd+Q` (macOS) or close from the system tray (Windows), then start the app again. 2. Check for another running instance — IrukaDark enforces a single instance. If a background process is stuck, use Activity Monitor (macOS) or Task Manager (Windows) to force-quit any `IrukaDark` process, then relaunch. 3. Reset preferences — A corrupted settings file can prevent startup. Delete the preferences file and relaunch: - macOS: `~/Library/Application Support/irukadark/irukadark.prefs.json` - Windows: `%APPDATA%\IrukaDark\irukadark.prefs.json` Deleting the preferences file resets all settings (theme, language, shortcuts, opacity) to defaults. Your account and data are not affected. ### App feels slow or uses too much memory IrukaDark allocates up to 2 GB of memory for processing large datasets. If the app is consuming excessive resources: 1. Restart IrukaDark to clear accumulated state 2. If clipboard history is large (1000+ items), consider clearing old entries 3. Close the chat window when not in use — active conversations maintain context in memory ### App doesn't start at login IrukaDark supports auto-start on login. If it's not starting: - macOS: Go to IrukaDark Settings and ensure Start at Login is enabled. If already enabled, toggle it off and on again. - Windows: Check Settings → Apps → Startup and confirm IrukaDark is listed and enabled. ### Logo popup shows only an empty outline while dragging (Windows) On some Windows PCs, the logo popup may temporarily turn into an empty rectangular outline while you move it, then return to normal after you release it. This can happen when Windows is configured not to show window contents while dragging. 1. Press `Win + R` 2. Enter `SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe` 3. In the Visual Effects tab, enable **Show window contents while dragging** 4. Click **Apply**, then **OK** Company-managed PCs, Remote Desktop sessions, virtual machines, or optimization tools may lock or overwrite this setting. If changing it does not help, also check Windows Update and your graphics driver. --- ## AI Features ### "Insufficient credits" This error (HTTP 402) means your credit balance is zero. - Check your current balance in Dashboard → Credits - Free plan users receive a monthly credit allowance that resets each billing cycle - Team plan Owners can purchase additional credit packs from the Credits page - Upgrade your plan for a higher monthly allowance ### AI response is empty or cut off 1. Check your internet connection — IrukaDark requires an active connection for all AI features 2. Try again — Temporary API issues can cause incomplete responses. Wait a few seconds and retry. 3. Simplify your request — Very long text selections or complex prompts may hit processing limits. Try selecting a smaller portion of text. ### "Rate limit exceeded. Please wait X seconds." You've sent too many requests in a short period. Wait the indicated number of seconds (usually 60) before trying again. This limit protects the service from overload and applies per-account. ### "Unexpected response from API" A server-side issue. Usually resolves on its own within a few minutes. If it persists: 1. Check your internet connection 2. Restart IrukaDark 3. If the issue continues for more than 30 minutes, check the [IrukaDark status page](https://irukadark.com) for service announcements ### "Authentication required" Your session has expired. 1. Sign out from IrukaDark Settings 2. Sign in again 3. If the issue persists, restart the app and sign in again ### Cannot sign in from the desktop app If signing in from the desktop app opens your browser but never completes, or repeatedly errors out, stale `irukadark.com` cookies in your browser may be the cause. Clear them using the steps below and then try signing in again. **Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge / Brave / Arc** 1. Paste one of the following into the address bar: - Chrome: `chrome://settings/cookies/detail?site=irukadark.com` - Edge: `edge://settings/cookies/detail?site=irukadark.com` 2. Click **Remove all**. 3. Alternatively: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → **See all cookies and site data** → search for `irukadark.com` → remove every matching entry. **Safari (macOS)** 1. From the menu bar: Safari → Settings (or Preferences) → Privacy 2. Click **Manage Website Data...** 3. Type `irukadark` into the search field. 4. Select all matching entries, click **Remove**, then **Done**. **Firefox** 1. Settings → Privacy & Security 2. Under **Cookies and Site Data**, click **Manage Data...** 3. Type `irukadark.com` into the search field. 4. Select the matching entries, click **Remove Selected**, then **Save Changes**. After clearing cookies, restart IrukaDark and try signing in again. Clearing these cookies also signs you out of any other browser sessions currently logged in to `irukadark.com`. Your account data and settings are not affected. ### Tutorial does not progress / controls do not respond If the tutorial is not working correctly, click **Skip** in the tutorial screen to continue. You can review initial setup and usage later from Settings or the documentation. --- ## Screenshot Explain ### Screenshot captures a black or blank image - macOS: The Screen Recording permission is likely missing. See [Permissions → Screen Recording](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions#screen-recording). - Windows: Some apps use hardware-accelerated rendering that can block screen capture: 1. In the target app, disable Hardware Acceleration in its settings (e.g., Chrome: Settings → System → Use hardware acceleration) 2. Update your graphics driver to the latest version 3. On Windows 11 24H2+, check Settings → Privacy & security → Screen capture ### Screenshot Explain returns nothing 1. Ensure you selected a visible region — minimized or fully obscured windows may produce unusable captures 2. Check your credits balance — Screenshot Explain consumes credits for each analysis 3. Try a smaller or more focused selection area ### Crosshair cursor doesn't appear The Screen Recording permission may not be granted, or the app needs a restart after granting it. - macOS: Grant Screen Recording in System Settings, then restart IrukaDark (`Cmd+Q` and relaunch) - Windows: Restart IrukaDark --- ## Text Explain & Translate ### Text Explain does nothing when triggered - macOS: The Accessibility permission is required to read selected text. See [Permissions → Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions#accessibility). - All platforms: Ensure text is actually selected before pressing the shortcut. Some apps (e.g., terminal emulators, remote desktop clients) may not expose text selection to the OS. ### Translate & Replace doesn't replace the text This feature requires both: 1. Accessibility permission (macOS) — to read the selected text and simulate keyboard input 2. Automation permission (macOS) — to paste into the target app If the translated text appears in the IrukaDark popup but doesn't replace the original: - Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation and ensure the target app is listed under IrukaDark - Some apps block programmatic paste. Try using `Cmd+V` manually after the translation appears in the popup. ### Wrong language detected or translated IrukaDark auto-detects the source language. To improve accuracy: 1. Select a longer passage of text (short fragments can be ambiguous) 2. Set your preferred target language in IrukaDark's Settings → Language 3. Use the `/translate_ja`, `/translate_en`, etc. slash commands in AI Chat for explicit language targeting --- ## AI Meeting Notes ### "Failed to start recording" 1. Check permissions — Both Screen Recording and Microphone permissions are needed. See [Permissions](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions). 2. Check if another recording is active — Only one recording session can run at a time. Stop any existing recording first. 3. Restart IrukaDark — A stale recording state can sometimes persist. Quit and relaunch the app. ### "Screen recording permission required for system audio" System audio capture requires the Screen Recording permission on macOS. Even if you only want to record microphone audio, this permission is needed for the full recording pipeline. Follow [Permissions → Screen Recording](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions#screen-recording) and restart IrukaDark after granting the permission. ### "Microphone permission denied" - macOS: See [Permissions → Microphone](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions#microphone) - Windows: Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone and ensure both the global toggle and the "Let desktop apps access your microphone" toggle are on ### No system audio is captured (only microphone works) On macOS, system audio capture requires Screen Recording permission. If microphone works but system audio is silent: 1. Verify Screen Recording is enabled for IrukaDark 2. Restart IrukaDark after granting the permission 3. Ensure the meeting app is outputting audio to the same audio device IrukaDark is monitoring ### Recording is silent or very quiet 1. Check microphone input level — The audio level indicator in the Meeting Notes UI should show activity when you speak. If it's flat, your microphone may not be selected correctly. 2. Select the correct audio source — In the Meeting Notes UI, verify the correct microphone and system audio source are selected. 3. Check system volume — Ensure your system audio output is not muted. ### "Failed to load recording" / Video preview doesn't play The recording file may be corrupted or incomplete (e.g., if the app crashed during recording). 1. Check that the recording file exists in the app's recordings directory 2. Try exporting the recording — even if preview fails, the export may still work 3. If the file is corrupted, the recording cannot be recovered ### Export fails | Error Message | Solution | | ---------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | | "Cannot write to the selected directory" | Choose a different directory that you have write access to | | "Stop recording before exporting" | Stop the active recording, then export | | "Please wait until generation finishes" | Wait for the summary/slide generation to complete | | "No content to export" | Start a recording and generate a summary first | | "Failed to save the meeting note" | Check disk space and folder permissions, then try again | ### Transcription quality is poor 1. Add custom terms — Go to the Meeting Notes dictionary and add specialized vocabulary, product names, and technical terms (up to 100 terms) 2. Improve audio quality — Use a dedicated microphone instead of a laptop mic. Reduce background noise. 3. Check language settings — Ensure the transcription language matches the meeting language --- ## Clipboard & Snippets ### Clipboard History Popup doesn't open 1. Check the shortcut — Default is `Cmd+Shift+V` (macOS) or `Alt+V` (Windows). Verify in IrukaDark Settings → Shortcuts. 2. Check for conflicts — Other clipboard managers (e.g., Paste, CopyClip, Ditto) may claim the same shortcut. Disable or remap them. 3. Restart IrukaDark — The clipboard monitor may need reinitialization. ### Clipboard items are missing or not saved IrukaDark stores up to 1000 text items and 30 images. Older items are automatically removed when the limit is reached. Clipboard monitoring starts when the app launches — items copied before IrukaDark was running are not captured. ### Paste doesn't work from Clipboard History - macOS: Accessibility permission is required for paste simulation. See [Permissions → Accessibility](/docs/troubleshooting/permissions#accessibility). - Some apps intercept or block programmatic paste. Try `Cmd+V` / `Ctrl+V` manually after selecting an item. ### Snippet import fails | Error Message | Solution | | ----------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | | "Invalid snippet file format" | The file must be a valid IrukaDark snippet export (JSON format) | | "Failed to import snippets" | Check that the file is not corrupted and try again | | "Failed to export snippets" | Check disk space and write permissions for the chosen directory | | "No snippets to export" | Create at least one snippet before exporting | --- ## Keyboard Shortcuts ### Shortcuts don't work at all 1. Check if shortcuts are disabled — Look for the "Disable all shortcuts" toggle in Settings 2. macOS: Grant Accessibility permission — this is required for global shortcut registration 3. Restart IrukaDark — Shortcuts are registered on startup; a restart can resolve stale registrations 4. Check for conflicts — Another app may have claimed the same shortcuts. Common culprits: screen recorders, clipboard managers, window managers, IDE global shortcuts ### "Failed to register shortcut. There may be a conflict with another app." Another application has already registered the same global shortcut. To resolve: 1. Identify the conflicting app (try closing apps one by one to find it) 2. Either remap the shortcut in IrukaDark Settings, or change the conflicting app's shortcut ### "This shortcut is reserved by the system" Certain key combinations are reserved by the OS and cannot be used. Choose a different shortcut combination. ### Shortcuts stop working after sleep/wake (macOS) macOS can occasionally deregister global shortcuts after the system wakes from sleep. - Restart IrukaDark to re-register all shortcuts - If this happens frequently, check for macOS updates that may fix the issue ### Shortcuts don't work with non-US keyboard layout IrukaDark registers shortcuts based on key codes, which may not match the label printed on non-US keyboards. Open IrukaDark Settings → Shortcuts and re-bind the shortcut by pressing the desired key combination on your keyboard. --- ## Content Generation (Images, Videos, Slides) ### Image generation fails 1. Check credits — Each generation request consumes credits 2. Simplify the prompt — Very complex prompts may fail. Try a shorter, clearer description. 3. Check aspect ratio — Use `/image status` to verify your current settings ### Video generation times out Video generation can take several minutes. If it times out after 10 minutes: 1. Try a shorter duration (use `/video duration 4` for a 4-second video) 2. Simplify the prompt 3. Check your internet connection — large video files require a stable connection for download ### "Failed to generate slide" / "Please generate summary first" Slide generation requires an existing summary. Ensure you've generated a summary before requesting slides. If the summary already exists but slides still fail, try regenerating the summary first. ### Template errors | Error Message | Solution | | ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------- | | "Template not found" | The template may have been deleted. Check your template list. | | "A template with this name already exists" | Choose a unique name for the template | | "Name is required" | Provide a name when saving a template | | "Failed to apply template" | The template data may be corrupted. Delete and recreate it. | --- ## URL Summary ### "No valid URL detected" Ensure you've selected a complete HTTP or HTTPS URL. Partial URLs, file paths, and non-HTTP protocols are not supported. The URL must include `http://` or `https://`. --- ## Window Control (macOS) ### Window snap shortcuts don't work 1. Check Accessibility permission — Window control requires Accessibility access 2. Check shortcut conflicts — Window management apps (Rectangle, Magnet, BetterSnapTool) often use `Ctrl+Option+Arrow` combinations. Disable or remap them. 3. Multi-monitor issues — If the window moves to an unexpected monitor, use `Ctrl+Option+N` / `Ctrl+Option+P` to navigate between monitors --- ## Updates ### "Failed to check for updates" 1. Check your internet connection — The update check requires access to `dl.irukadark.com` 2. Firewall/proxy — Ensure `dl.irukadark.com` is not blocked by your network's firewall or proxy 3. Try again later — The update server may be temporarily unavailable ### Update downloaded but not installed After downloading an update, IrukaDark prompts you to restart. If you dismissed the prompt: - macOS: Quit IrukaDark (`Cmd+Q`) and relaunch — the update will be applied on next startup - Windows: Update IrukaDark through the Microsoft Store/MSIX distribution channel --- ## Network & Connectivity ### All AI features return errors If every AI feature fails simultaneously: 1. Check your internet connection — IrukaDark requires an active connection for AI features 2. Check your firewall/proxy — Ensure IrukaDark can reach its API servers. Allowlist the app in your firewall settings. 3. Corporate networks — Some corporate firewalls or proxies block unknown HTTPS traffic. Contact your IT department to allowlist IrukaDark. 4. VPN — If using a VPN, try disconnecting temporarily to test if it's the cause ### Slow response times 1. Check your internet speed — AI features require a stable connection. Streaming responses may stutter on very slow connections. 2. Try a simpler request — Long text selections or complex prompts take longer to process 3. Peak hours — Server response times may increase during peak usage periods If your issue is not covered here, please contact support or report it at the [IrukaDark website](https://irukadark.com). ---
